So this was a fun experiment, and I honestly thought that radishes were easy to grow! We decided to grow 2 types of radish, the longer variety, as well as the more traditional round radish and I've learnt that nothing is easy the first time around, it's all about learning and growing.

These radishes were harder than expected to grow, but tasted great once grown. I've learnt much from this messy process and have definitely had fun watching them grow.
They seemed quite exciting and simple enough as they can grow and be ready to eat in only 4 weeks.....so I decided to give them a go, although I realised if the light/sun was too far away they would start stretching longer distances and become quite leggy. I then spaced the seedlings out and planted them out into this long trough.

My main learning step with radishes is that they can quite easily bolt as is what is seen in the 2 images below. The vegetable shoots up and produces a flower, it was quite lovely and I enjoyed the small flowers in my garden, but because of that, the radish bulb doesn't fully form.
As the left image above, there is one good growing radish and the other two which had bolted, which meant the radish itself was tiny and not fully grown. One of my issues I think is that I was growing in containers and constantly moving things about.
🌱 Handy hint:
Sow radish seeds little and often, for small but continuous harvests.
The radishes below are growing quite well, although I understand I should have filled it up with more compost at the time. One other thing is that they can dry out quite quickly, so watering regularly was so important.
This was definitely a great learning process and am excited to round 2 in 2021! Research and good preparation is so important to making vegetable growing easy and simple, as well as ensuring a good harvest for the year.
